However, to ensure your knife remains in top condition, follow these guidelines:
- Frequent use: Use your knife regularly and maintain it properly to keep it in good condition.
- Keep it dry: Since our knives are made from high-carbon steel, they are not stainless. Wipe your knife dry after each use to prevent rust, and never store it wet.
Damascus carbon steel gives knives an unmatchable sharp cutting edge, but it is prone to oxidation. The steel will react with the acids in food and form a beautiful patina. This is perfectly normal and does not affect the performance of the blade. - Use a wooden cutting board: Next to a good knife, a proper wooden cutting board is very important.Never cut on hard surfaces such as granite, glass, metal, corian… Avoid plastic boards as they are also harsh on the edge.
- Avoid hard materials: Keep your knife away from bones, frozen foods, or other hard materials that can chip the edge.
- Hand wash only: Do not put your knife in the dishwasher. Instead, wash it by hand, wipe it dry, and store it in its protective box.
Don’t use too much soap, this removes the natural greasy protective layer on the blade - Apply protective oil: From time to time, put some protective oil on the blade and handle, this keeps your knife in mint condition.
You can find a bottle of oil in your knifebox - Regular sharpening: Keep your knife sharp by regularly using a ceramic honing rod. Don’t wait until the blade is dull to sharpen it. We offer a free yearly sharpening service for knives made by us.
